Well folks, we did it! Congratulations to everyone that Ran for the Woods on Saturday!
Sorry it took me a few days to get this up here. I'm pretty sure it took me until just now to properly rehydrate from Run for the Woods! Holy cow was it humid on Saturday or what?!? I'm pretty sure this mild Summer has turned me into a total pansy, but I still can't believe how many people came out to support such an amazing cause in that heat!
I gotta admit, I was a ball of emotion on Saturday. I was super-nervous! So afraid that I would let someone down (Coach Tim, Jim, you all, my husband, myself) if I didn't have an amazing run. I realize now that it was nuts to think that way, but at the time it is what I was feeling.
So many of you came up to me on Saturday with kind words and stories of your own training that it made me feel SO much better even before the race started - so thank you for that!
I'm not entirely sure my inhaler provided any assistance in the humidity on Saturday, and I gotta say I was POOPED about halfway through! I'm just so glad there were a few nice downhills and a water stop along the way!
Towards the end my legs felt heavy...like I had weights in my shoes. But, somehow I was able to pick it up and run the last bit to finish strong!
I didn't finish as fast as I would have liked, but I wasn't last and I actually FINISHED! Since it was my very first race, I think I can safely say that I achieved my personal best race time. Right? Haha! All in all, I'd say it was a good day!
I can't wait for next year! Maybe you'll see me in the 10k?

Oh, and I'd just like to add a quick plug for my next running adventure - I'll be doing the NU Hartford Marathon relay with a great group of friends and co-workers on October 11. We're running to raise money for Foodshare. If you'd like to make a donation to our relay team, please click here. For every $30 raised, Foodshare can feed a hungry person for an entire month!!
